VISUAL FX SUPERVISOR

SHOT GR22

Another stop on our tour through Atlanta was a visit with Visual Effects Society Luminary, Art David! Another Hollywood East guy who spent part of his early career with The Post Group when they had a facility on the Disney-MGM Studios backlot.

Art had the courage/foresight to purchase his own personal Silicon Graphics computer workstation at a time when they were still listing in the high tens of thousands of dollars! But that was also the device that allowed him to make the transition from video effects to film effects at a time when there was more separation between those two crafts. Art helped pioneer the “bullet-time” effect for the original The Matrix film (according to Art, shot number GR22). And has since gone on to create visual effects for many more of Hollywood’s most famous films.

Also a great guy, and a great interview. Thanks again, Art!

Art David

VISUAL FX SUPERVISOR

Art’s career in the visual fx/film world is simply jaw-dropping.  His credit list is almost unbelievable and includes historical milestones The Matrix, Starship Troopers, Men in Black II,  Contact, The Ghost in the Darkness, Judge Dredd, Die Hard with a Vengence…  and on and on and on.  His television work is equally impressive with credits that include Tulsa King, Dynasty and Ray Donovan.   We are talking about a master in his craft.

At the Disney/MGM Studios, Art worked on Sheena and Thunder in Paradise, then broke out on his own and started a fx company in his home where he did scenes for Michael, Contact and one of the most famous scenes in history, the bullet time scene from The Matrix.  Now he works out of Atlanta and continues to do remarkable work for the industry.
